Fitz in the Morning: Troop Salute

Dylan Thompson of the USMC

Some of proudest Troop Salutes come from moms and the dads who are always so happy that their son or daughter has found their calling, and stepped up to serve. But I also really love the salute submissions that I receive from siblings.
I think there’s something special in a salute from a troop’s brother or sister because you just know they fought off and on their whole lives and probably competed with each other in everything. So when I read these salutes that come in from siblings, I see a special kind of respect shine through. Today we are saluting Dylan Thompson of the United States Marine Corps. This salute was sent in by Dylan’s younger brother Cole. Cole is a very persistent young man.  He wrote me over and over to make sure his salute made it in! Private First Class Dylan Thompson is just 18 years old, and just starting his journey as a Marine. He is a 3521 Motor transport Mechanic serving in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Cole is very proud of big brother Dylan, as is his entire family. Cole told me that he is inspired by his brother’s service, but hasn’t made a decision to serve yet himself. If he does decide to enlist he says the Marine Corps is the only branch for him. I guess now Dylan is going to have to hug his little brother next time he sees him, instead of punch him in the arm. Today we salute Dylan Thompson of the United States Marine Corps.
