Garth Brooks has made a huge announcement surrounding the County Music Association! Garth has a long history with the CMA’s , having won 22 CMA Awards since 1991, including 7 Entertainer of the Year trophies. But on Wednesday morning July 29, 2020, Garth announced he’s removing himself from the running for Entertainer of the Year from here on out.
Garth took the Entertainer of the Year award home again in 2019 beating out Carrie Underwood and Eric Church. Both were favorites to win but after Garth won, Eric Church decided to take some digs at him.
Video shows Eric Church trying to hold back laughter before delivering his punchline, and he clearly shares a moment with his band afterwards. Maybe it was simply a lighthearted inside joke played out in public or perhaps Eric truly did mean to slam Garth, just as he and others did after Brooks admitted to lip-syncing during the 2017 CMA Awards broadcast, right before being named that year’s CMA Entertainer of the Year.
Here’s an in-depth look in case you missed it
If you follow his Facebook live videos this may not even be news to you. He even quoted a tweet that surrounded his win. “There’s one tweet in there that really stuck in my head,” Brooks said in a virtual press conference. “It said, ‘Hey, man. This guy, why doesn’t he just step down (and leave) the Entertainer for the next generation?’ I 100% agree.”
Do you think Garth Brooks should have stepped down or would you rather see him take home the win again?
