Even if you don’t watch American Idol, there’s a good chance that a number of memorable songs will come to mind when Disney is the topic. The more well-known songs sure do stick out; “A Friend Like Me” from Aladdin, “Circle of Life” from The Lion King, “Heigh Ho” from Snow White, and “Mad Madam Mim” from one of my favorite Disney movies ever, The Sword In The Stone. And this Easter night, all the stars were out for Disney Night on American Idol, and the show was stole by Laine Hardy, the 18-year-old from Louisiana.
The Top 10 contestants left on this season of Idol charmed judges Lionel Ritchie, Luke Bryan and Katy Perry with their renditions of Disney songs young and old. But the young Mr. Hardy charmed the pants off the audience, the judges, and us with his up-tempo, foot-stomping rendition of “Oo-De-Lally” from Robin Hood.
It’s hard to watch this gem and not smile!
At the end, the talented young man gets a vote of confidence from Luke Bryan, “What did I tell you last year? You better be careful, or you might win American Idol.”
We expect Laine to make it deeper into the season of Idol, and I can’t wait for his next performance!
