Aquaman is the super hero of the seven seas! Not to mention the king of Atlantis. After years of Sponge Bob jokes and being called useless, we got to see what Aquaman could really do in this blockbuster to end 2018 right. You can watch the trailer here if you haven’t seen the movie yet! This is a spoiler free review with just the base lines of what the story is about.
Arthur Curry is the son of a lighthouse keeper and the Queen of Atlantis, a sunken city forgotten by the world over time. It seems like a very weird and unusual couple because…well it is. But after being forced into an arranged marriage Queen Atlanna decides to run from the sea only to be near death and saved by a lighthouse keeper who she would fall madly in love with and have a baby who would one day rule on both land and sea. But unlike his mother this is not a future Arthur wants.
Arthur lost his mother at a young age, raised by only his father and a strange man from Atlantis who promises to train him for the day he’ll come to claim his rightful place on the throne. (Willem Defoe) A long the way he makes a few more friends including Mera, who just like his mother is forced into an arranged marriage with his half Brother Orm. To save the people he loves he’ll have to become more than a king, he’ll need to become a hero.
His his half brother Orm who sits on the throne sees no chance of the surface world and Atlantis being at peace…so the only other option is War. This makes the reluctant Arthur have no choice but to defend both worlds he’s grown to love and want to protect and claim his rightful place as king. But nothing is ever that easy, Arthur will have to travel farther and longer than any King before him to retrieve the true Trident of Atlantis the same Trident that caused Atlantis to sink to the bottom of the ocean. (Yeah it’s that powerful)
This movie was one wild ride whether you’re a die hard Aquaman fan or just curious what the character is about. You’ll sit on the edge of your seats in awe as James Wan (Director) introduces you into a world you didn’t know even existed below us. With love, hate, envy and optimisim leading the way this movie shows us exactly who Aquaman is and why he is the rightful king of the Seven Seas. Based on this underwater thrill ride i’d give it 4 and a half starfish! (I had to throw in a fish joke. I couldn’t help myself.) You can find Aquaman in theaters now! Go see it and be sure to come back here and let me know what you think!
