San Diego police detective James “Chappie” Hunter and a dog became a forever family after something reunited them.
Hunter was off duty when his motorcycle collided with a car in San Diego, California. He lost his left leg below the knee and then returned to work with a prosthetic leg after a year of recovery.
Chloe, a 9-year-old Shih Tzu and Roxy, a 13-year-old Chihuahua were rescued from a home in California. Both dogs suffered severe injuries after their previous owner bandage-wrapped their back paws so tightly it cut off blood flow. Chloe had to have both back feet amputated. She was fitted with orthopedic slippers for both of her back legs.
After Chloe completed her three-month recovery, Hunter and his family fostered her. She quickly became a foster fail, and they decided to make Chloe’s stay permanent by adopting her.
