Faniel Duplantier was watching alligators in a Louisiana canal when an incident occurred and he became a hero.

According to the Westwego Fire Department, a 5-year-old boy had fallen into the alligator-infested waters and and was yelling for help. He was in immense danger and Duplantier knew he had to act quickly. He successfully pulled the 5-year-old from the water. Then rescue crews arrived and helped bring the child safely back across the canal.

The department shared a photo of Duplantier on their Facebook page to praise his actions. But they concluded the post with a warning, “Spring is upon us and Summer is near, keep a close eye on children around waterways and swimming pools.”
