There’s an incredible rescue dog in Rhode Island that has done so many awesome thing, she’s inspired a Netflix movie.
Australian shepherd and border collie mix Ruby was adopted by Cpl. Daniel O’Neil in 2011. He was in need of a search-and-rescue dog for work. At the time, 8-month-old Ruby had been adopted and returned to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals shelter by five families. She was full of energy and needed her right person. That’s when O’Neil came along and enrolled Ruby into a K9 training course where she graduated at the top of her class.
Ruby went on to become the K9 dog for Rhode Island State Police where she assisted in several search-and-rescue missions. One of those missions, Ruby saved a boy who had fallen into a ravine and fell unconscious. That boy was the son of Patricia Inman, who was a shelter volunteer and dog trainer at the same time when Ruby was returned multiple times to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals shelter.
Between Ruby’s rescue missions and her extraordinary skills, she became so popular that she made national news and won awards. Now Ruby is being highlighted in an upcoming Netflix film called Rescued by Ruby. The film is based on two biographical short stories about Ruby’s life and will start streaming on March 17th.
